Where are we?

Ulverston is a pretty market town situated on the edge of the Southern Lake District. Its cobbled streets are packed full of small speciality shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, all within a couple of minutes walk from the house. Only 10 minutes drive from the shores of Coniston Water and Windermere and less than a mile from the shores of Morecambe Bay, the town has much to offer in terms of spectacular scenery, entertainment, great food and outdoor activities. Ulverston is a vibrant community which loves to celebrate, with festivals and events taking place throughout the year.  The town still has an "old-school" cinema with nostalgic snacks and an intermission!  Ulverston is famous for being the birthplace of Stan Laurel and has its very own Laurel and Hardy Museum.  It is also the official start (or finish) of the 70 mile-long "Cumbria Way".

Directions

By Road

Exit the M6 at J36 and follow the A590 towards Barrow-in-Furness. At the roundabout by Booths supermarket continue straight on for about 800m. At the large roundabout take the right hand land and follow the road signposted "Town Centre". At the next mini roundabout turn right up the hill. This road is Soutergate. The Butler’s House is situated 100m up the hill on the right hand side.

The house has a resident's parking pass (I will leave it on the kitchen table) which entitles you to free parking on Soutergate (within the marked bays). This is limited and can get busy but there is additional free parking in other residential streets close to the house.

By Rail

There are regular direct rail services between Manchester and Ulverston and all services connect with the wider rail network at Lancaster. The house is situated 10 minutes walk from the rail station.
